Description

We have combined our 2 most popular beginner courses!

Students will initially learn wax carving and casting techniques, then handcraft a ring which will then be cast off-site in sterling silver. This technique is highly addictive and students have the opportunity to make multiple handcrafted rings throughout the course if they wish.

In this workshop Students will also learn basic silversmithing / jewellery making techniques such as silver soldering, saw piercing, annealing, filing, drilling, finishing and polishing.

Initially practising with base metals, students will then make their final designs using sterling silver. It is expected that at least one pair of sterling silver earrings and / or pendant are designed and completed within the duration of the workshop.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will not only have the confidence to develop and refine their jewellery design skills such as stone setting and various joining techniques in our intermediate level workshops, but they will proficiently be able to use all the basic tools and equipment within a jewellers studio.

This course includes the use of all tools and materials including a limited amount of sterling silver. All ring castings are paid for by the student usually costing between $10 – $35. You can choose to have cast just 1 sterling silver ring or multiples – it’s totally up to you.

This is a fantastic ‘taster’ class for those people looking for a new hobby, to meet a range of interesting people, or perhaps a career change.
